After founder Paul Mitchell's death in 1989, John Paul DeJoria continued the hair care business with a vengeance. Today, the company's sales are almost $900 million annually. The brand has grown to include side brands like Modern Elixirs, the Tea Tree Collection, Paul Mitchell LAB, and Paul Mitchell Professional Hair Color. Twenty-five U.S. distributors sell the products to nearly 90,000 salons and schools.
John Paul DeJoria has so far resisted any and all offers to purchase the company.
Head For Change
Paul Mitchell's pet charity is Head For Change, a program devoted to restoring the environment one drop of product at a time. The company has dedicated itself to the principles of clean water, healthy trees, and a clean earth. It encourages volunteerism and environmental awareness among its employees. In addition, Paul Mitchell has held "cut-a-thons," donated supplies, and provided volunteers to children's programs all around the world.
